A Tragedy and Triumph Remembered in Book

Kyle Lake’s story of life and tragic death told by his father in new book

TYLER, Texas – Kyle Lake was a young man who really had it all. He was blessed with a beautiful wife and three amazing children. His career was all about doing what he loved most, serving others and God. Kyle served as the Senior Pastor at University Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, for seven years. Kyle was also the author of two books, Understanding God’s Will and Re-Understanding Prayer.

While serving the church, Kyle was known for his love for students, the numerous hours he spent in counseling with them, and his infectiously brilliant smile.  While speaking, his light comic demeanor was unceasingly both charming and disarming.

On October 30, 2005 while preparing to baptize a former Baylor University student during the week of homecoming, Kyle was tragically electrocuted before 800 worshippers. The story made national and international news, and people from Waco to Tyler and all over the country have struggled with the question, why?

Five years later, enter Kyle’s father, David Lake, who has been telling Kyle’s story for years. David has now written a book about the life and tragic death of his son. That’s Kyle: Living Life to the Fullest (SOS Publishing 2010) is the inspiring story of a young man who seemingly had every gift except one — length of years. He had looks, intelligence, charisma, and an effective ministry among thousands of college students, when after 33 brief years his life was cut short by a horrible accident.

In the book, David Lake’s eloquent words allow you, the reader, to walk with Kyle through his childhood, call to ministry, education, marriage, and ever-growing ministry. Then you will travel along with David and his family through the tragic loss of their beloved son, brother, husband, and father. They struggle with the most difficult question of all, why? If you’ll stay with them, you will be surprised and inspired by the triumph of Christian faith and hope which they are experiencing!

David Lake has lived in Tyler, Texas for over 40 years, where he has been a licensed attorney, practicing mostly in the areas of transactional and real estate law.  He holds degrees from Baylor University, Southwestern Seminary, and Southern Methodist University Law School. He is the President of American Health Services, Inc., and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cypress Bank. David is an active member of First Baptist Church in Tyler, where he has served as deacon chairman and teacher.

David Lake and his family established the Kyle Lake Foundation, a non-profit entity with a 501(c)(3) designation, in March 2007 in memory of Kyle Lake who impacted thousands for Christ with his Christ-centered life, contagious personality, and effective communication style. The Lake family seeks to continue the focus of Kyle's ministry, which is making the presence and message of Christ both real and meaningful to an ever-changing world, through the foundation that bears Kyle's name.

All of the rights to That’s Kyle: Living Life to the Fullest have been unconditionally given to the Kyle Lake Foundation.  Additionally, all proceeds from the sale of the book, less expenses of publishing, printing, and marketing, go to the Foundation.
